Cincinnati Newborn Studio /Tracie Jean Photo shows bum-up newborn photography pose with a baby boy dressed in a powder blue knitted outfit

Bum-Up

This pose is a newborn favorite! Most of the babies who visit our studio in downtown Cincinnati find this pose to be incredibly comfortable & they fall into a deep sleep. Bum-up can be done clothed or nakey.

Huck Finn

There are so many fun names for newborn poses. Huck Finn is one of my personal favorites & our newborn parents seem to really love this one too. During a newborn session we always start with baby wrapped just to make sure they’re warm & secure enough to rest deeply. Huck Finn is a transition wrap that we use between fully wrapped & changing into a new outfit.

Safety Tip: It is the most important to flow with the baby. We never force a newborn into a pose or place them in any positions that they resist.

Stork / Swing Pose

This pose has many variations & all of them are just so beautiful. This is another of my personal favorites. I love how our newborns become the central focus of the image & how womblike the image feels.

Safety Tip: Newborns are never suspended! This image is always taken with baby safely supported fully on our posing table.

Potato Sack / Wrapped

Potato sack pose uses a few tools underneath the wrap to fully support baby’s spine. When your session starts at our downtown Cincinnati studio, we will always start with baby wrapped snug. Your newborn’s hands will always be placed delicately under the chin and never on baby’s neck.

Safety tips: Newborns are never left to support their own necks. These images are composites that we take a hand out of in Photoshop. Placing baby’s hands back too far on the neck can impede respiration and this pose should never be created by an inexperienced newborn photographer.

Chin-on-Hands

Chin on hands really showcases the details of our newborns little fingers and facial features. As newborn photographers, we’re obsessed with all the details that change so quickly; little fingers, chubby cheeks, dainty eyelashes, button noses, the cutest little lips.

Safety tip: Newborns should never be forced to turn their necks in any direction for a photography pose. Straining a newborn’s neck is not safe!
