Underwater Maternity Session FAQ

Do I have to be an awesome swimmer to do an underwater maternity session?

No. Many moms are comfortable in the water but certainly not Olympic swimmers! As long as you can go under the water without holding your nose or feeling uncomfortable, you’ll be amazing! Most of the shots we take mom is able to touch bottom and we submerge for just a few seconds. It’s truly as quick as that!

When should I book my underwater maternity session?

We recommend booking your maternity session at the beginning of your second trimester. The sooner the better! We love giving you time to plan and budget out all your desired inclusions.

When should my session take place?

Underwater maternity sessions usually take place between 28-32 weeks. This can vary for moms carrying multiples or for first time moms who may not be showing as early as second or third pregnancies. In general, we want you to feel amazing about how your belly looks and about how you feel.

How long does it take?

Typically, an underwater maternity session take about an hour in the water. However, we do schedule 90 minutes for the session just to be on the safe side.

What should I bring with me?

We ask all of our underwater clients to bring a bra and panty set as close to your skin color as possible. If you’re planning to do any skin shots underwater pasties are also recommended. Please bring a beach towel for drying off and a pair of shoes that you can wear that are slip-free to wear following your session.

Will I be the only one in the images?

Underwater sessions are designed for our pregnant moms predominantly, however partners are welcomed. We do not allow children to be a part of our underwater sessions at this time.

How should I prepare for the session?

Unlike studio maternity sessions, underwater sessions do not require hair and makeup. If you are interested in hair and makeup artistry, you may contact the studio or book an artist that is fully prepared with waterproof makeup options.

Please refrain from the use of oils on the skin prior to your session. When we are doing underwater sessions, we specifically use salt water pools to avoid particles created by chlorinated water. Oils will interfere with the clarity of the images.

How long does it take to get the images back after the session?

Our underwater maternity edits are some of the most fun to edit! Our turn around time for editing underwater is 2-3 weeks.
